In this election Velmanette Montgomery came in first with 93% of the vote which amounted to 114,943 votes. Michael G. Cox came in second and obtained 3% of the vote which amounted to 4,247 votes. Other candidates included Mamie Rose who obtained 3% of the vote which amounted to 3,896 votes. The total non-write-in votes in this election were 123,086.
